Guestbook - Bulletin Board

Thank you for visiting the Wachna Family of Canada web presence! We would be pleased if you would Add your greetings to our guestbook ... Don't see your recent addition? Click "Reload/Refresh" for your browser.

I've recently made several changes to the web-site layout, in anticipation of Reunion-2012.
Because I don't check here very often (it's been rather quiet), please use email for any questions.
Before you ask, so far the two "Reunion 2012" entries in the LH panel are just dummy place-holders, and only produce an error message.
We expect appropriate information from the Reunion-2012 Committee any time now ...

Greetings All:
Just proving to myself, that this "feature" still functions, as we gear up for Reunion-2008 in a few days ...
Perhaps there will be discussions on how (and by whom) the Wachna Family of Canada web presence will be managed from now on.

Hello Chris - agreed on the difficulties with "too much" security. The 2004 Committee was afraid of identity theft etc. Besides, leave it open, and it will quickly fill up with porn & pill messages.

Thanks for dropping by.

Hello to anyone and everyone! I would think that the reaon this page isn't getting too much usage is because access to the members only area is limited to those who know the password. Unfortunatley it is hard to get everyone the password however thanks goes out to Melody Prangley who messaged everyone she could on facebook to help promote this site.

Although this feature of the site got very little use for the 2004 reunion, I just wanted to ensure that it is working - since you found your way here! Best Wishes ...

Greetings All:

I don't check here very often now, and they say talking to yourself is a sign of ... ?

So if you need something in a hurry, try emailing me.

Before you ask, no, I've heard nothing about "Reunion Toronto 2008" activity, or contacts.

Greetings All, and especially to the person logging in from Ontario Hydro (or is it "Hydro One")? From the IP address, it might be too much to assume you are in Toronto.

However, by any chance, are you a member of the "Reunion 2008 Committee", and know my Brother-in-Law, Terry up in Bradford?

I was planning to start putting up some pages for the 2008 reunion (2004 being history), and want to harmonize my efforts with the 2008 Committee's.

Don't be shy, because I won't "byte" or expect you to immediately take over as Webmaster! BTW, if you are a family member, that qualifies you for an email alias such as Nice.Person@Wachna.ca - E.g. Terry@Wachna.ca ...

Cheers;

I recently figured out how to restore access to the family-only portions of the site. Nobody missed it enough to email me so I guess it's OK I took so long!

The "problem" - changing the operating system from Redhat 9 to Fedora Core 4 introduced 'features' I didn't know I needed, or wanted.

As mentioned by Boris Bednar in his recent email, Claudia Millman passed away Sunday evening (12 Sept 2004). There will be a memorial service for Claudia on Saturday 18 Sept, at 4:30 P.M. at the First Unitarian Church, 30 Cleary Ave, Ottawa, Ontario. As far as I know, no obituary has been published, at least not in the four newspapers I've consulted.

Thank you and God Bless us all

Hey David, I guess I should have told you long ago that the only way to get the Wachna clan to participate in a venture such as this guestbook is to proclaim that anyone who adds their greetings to this site would have their name entered in a draw for 12 year old scotch.
You've done a stellar job(no pun intended)in putting the site together and those who have not logged on are the lesser for it.

Boris, I cannot say that I expected more visitors to leave greetings, messages etc - but I do hope that more will visit and at least exchange email addresses. Spammers can't get addresses here because of the password etc.
Thank you for being one of the very few family "pioneers" to not only find this feature of the website, but also to use it! You've made my day.

David - Thanks for the info. I guess I was only half right or did not listen to the first part from our Windsor cousins. I did have the password right.

I expected to see more people signed in to the guestbook.
See you in a few weeks.

Hello Kerry:

Thank you for adding an entry to the "Guest Book", and confirming that "it works". I was wondering if I had the programming wrong, and whether only my locally-generated messages were getting through!

See you and the family at the reunion. "Hello" to Todd, Kailley and Joseph too.

A technical update:

Sympatico has upgraded our Internet service, complete with a new modem, so that the server can send/receive files 8x faster than before! That's at "up to" 3,000,000 bits per second towards me, and 800,000 bits per second from here to you. This will be most noticeable in case you want to download a large photo from the "photo gallery", AND you have a high-speed connection too ... Enjoy!

Greetings All:

We've had a hardware failure here - the router appears to have died. Before it went US (South) yesterday, it may have been giving some flaky results.

A new router has been installed, with fingers crossed, because it's a different model and I hope it not only works for you, but that its firewall keeps out the undesirables ...

Hello Everybody:

This is just a demo of how new messages are added to the top of the page. It also provided me with the reassurance that things seem to be working (including password access to this area).

With the flurry of "real" traffic here, I expect this trivia will soon slide out of sight, but you can still scroll down to find it ...

Greetings Wachna Family:

It's been a really fun, challenging, and learning experience hacking together this web-site. Along the way I've had the encouragement of Bob Wachna, my wife (Adele Quarrington), and support of David Millman.

Many cosmetic changes will no doubt follow, and more family content will be added. I hope you will find this site useful, enjoyable, and reasonably user-friendly.
